Images from 'Inbetween' sculpture exhibition

'Inbetween', a sculpture exhibition by the term three sculpture group on the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, included art works made of mixed media, which had to fulfil the requirements to be weather proof and durable for the 'public space'. The pieces were constructions of wood, cement, metal, wire and tissue paper. Students also decided to incorporate recycled material from the domestic environment. Some pieces focused on a diversion of industrial products into art. The show included one performance piece which took place in 2009.
The participants were early career artists and used their wide range of existing professional expertise. The students said, "It is an exciting project, for most of us it was the first real brief and deadline, which also offered a great opportunity to do a larger work for a specific space. It was good to get public feedback. Because the work would be shown in public, we had to be ambitious; because it was outdoors we had to be practical. The execution of our initial concepts changed in interesting ways as we learned to fulfil the brief within the limits of time and budget and practicability. A great experience – and lovely to see all the individual projects together. “
