Course outline

What is the course about?

The course is a taster session on hand bookbinding for anyone who would like to know more about this craft and/or who might be thinking of enrolling for one of the longer courses at the City Lit.

What topics will we cover?

We will look at historical and contemporary bookbinding. You will be introduced to materials and equipment and make a simple bookbinding.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

• Make a simple bookbinding.
• Understand/know a little more about the techniques, history and materials of hand bookbinding.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is for those with little or no experience or knowledge of hand bookbinding.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

By group demonstration, discussion, visual aids, practical tasks and individual assistance.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There will be a small charge (£2.50) for materials used during the day, please bring the money with you to the class.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. The tutor will give you feedback during and at the end of the day.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
