Learning how to make triangular, rather than rectangular books, and discovering the potential of this shape.
You will learn how to measure, cut and fold paper to create triangular pages, how to use several techniques for attaching folded paper to make a book-block and how to cover board with paper or cloth to create a cover for your work. We will also look at ways to connect book-blocks to make multiple bindings.
• Fold and cut paper to make triangular sections.
• Sew folded sections to create a binding and add a cover of your choice.
• Take home a triangular binding (or two!) created by you.
The course is open to both beginners and students with some experience of bookbinding. The hand outs will contain written and diagrammatic instructions, and can be adapted to suit specific needs. You will need to be quite attentive in your work, and be able to measure, cut and fold paper with accuracy.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
The whole class will be taught together as a group, by explanation and demonstration, and individual attention will be given to each student as required.
The cost of most materials is included in the course. Decorative paper will be available to purchase on the day.
Basic tools are available in the classroom, but if you have your own equipment, you encouraged to bring it. We will be using scalpels, rulers, pencils, rubbers, bookbinding needles, set squares etc.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
