The course is a taster session on the creative craft of hand bookbinding. It is ideal for anyone who would like to know more about this area and/or who might be thinking of enrolling on one of the longer courses at City Lit.
We will look at historical and contemporary bookbinding. You will be introduced to materials and equipment and make a simple bookbinding.

• Understand/know a little more about the techniques, history and materials of hand bookbinding.
The course is for those with little or no experience or knowledge of hand bookbinding.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.

There will be a small charge (£2.50) for materials used during the day, please bring the money with you to the class. A pencil, notebook and eraser are also recommended.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
