This compact four day workshop will give beginners a full on taste of bookbinding. You will make a multi sectioned stitched hard bound book covered in your own unique patterned paste papers. Then complete this with a coordinated slip case.
Introduce yourself to bookbinding by learning how to sew a multi-sectioned case-binding, making a slip case and making unique patterned paste papers.

This course is suitable for beginners.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
Through demonstration, practical and discussion you will be taught as a group and helped individually as required. Handouts will accompany demonstrations. The course is structured to manage the work within the class.
There will be a charge for materials of £10. The bindery is equipped with tools and equipment needed for this short course. You need to bring an apron or old shirt to wear when making the patterned papers.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You can expect your tutor to give you feedback and guidance and at the end of the course you will be given the opportunity to complete a record of your achievements which will be verified by your tutor.
