» Find another course in Visual arts» Search all coursesThis ceramics course combines the techniques of throwing, turning and decorating pots. This enables you to make a broad variety of thrown forms, while applying different decorating techniques to your pots.
You will learn to 'wedge' clay, and create a series of thrown and turned forms, including bowls, vases and plates. Spouts, lids and handles will also be taught so that you can make jars and teapots.
- Produce a variety of thrown forms.
- Learn to turn your thrown forms to refine their shapes.
- Use a variety of clays.
- Use a broad variety of decoration techniques.
- Understand the sequence of using various decorative techniques.
- Use surface decoration in a personal and innovative way.
Beginners to intermediate.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
