What is the course about?

Explore a range of 3D model making skills, using simple materials to achieve effective 3D maquettes.
You will have the opportunity to work on individual projects, using materials and methods which do not require a workshop environment. The course will include an introduction to historical and contemporary context and key concepts on architectural model making.
This beginners course is suitable for interior design, architectural – and 3D design ideas.

What topics will we cover?

- historical and contemporary theoretical background
- design development of your model
- planning stages including
- drawing to scale, using traditional drawing skills,
- a basic introduction to CAD drawing skills
- model making techniques
- surface finishing
- introduction to photographic documentation of work

Please note: This is not a computer course for CAD or photoshop, although some use of computers might be included.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

-be aware of a wide range of architectural and interior design models
-sketch out your design ideas
-plan the making of your model
-build an architectural model of beginners or intermediate level.
-be able to document your work by photograph
-follow good studio practice.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No previous experience is necessary. This course is for anyone with an interest in interior design, architectural – and 3D design. You should be able to draw you idea.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

A mixture of lectures, work demonstration, one to one tuition, practical work on individual sample projects and informal group discussions. This course includes a museum visit.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
