Every student has a different project, yet we can learn from all of them, as there are many commonly encountered problems. In this class we will focus on finding the best solution to your individual problem, and learn about editing techniques in the process. We use the group-setting to gain and give feed-back and to learn to present and look at work.
We will look at different aspects of editing mainly in response to material brought by fellow students. We will also exercise some editing techniques in class. Depending on need we may use AfterEffects or Photoshop for certain functions.
1. Digitize your material into Final Cut
2. Output your final movie to tape/disc
3. Identify different aspects of a work in progress that needs changing
4. Find some ways to change/improve (not perfect) your own project.
This is an advanced course and it is necessary to have completed at least a beginners level editing class. You will work on your own material, mainly outside of class.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
Each week one or two people will present their work. We will look at their particular problem to find useful tips for them and identify what is useful for your own project Sometimes there will be short exercises. The bulk of sessions will concentrate on each individual’s work, which we will look at and discuss in forum sessions. Some individual tutorial time is included. Handbooks, manuals and worksheets are available.
You may want to purchase removable storage to collect and keep your data safe, though you will have your own account in class where you can accumulate your work from week to week.
You might also want to consider purchasing other books related to the subject of film making and editing. We will also provide you with a range of handouts free of charge and you can make use of books in the library.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. The tutor will give you regular feedback generally and on a more individual basis. You will also have peer-reviews and be part of an overall culture of sharing feedback. A written report can be obtained on request.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
