What is the course about?

This course is an overview of Photoshop, designed for anyone interested in using Photoshop on a variety of ways. Starting with basic techniques then moving onto more constructive practical exercises this course also allows students to investigate their own creative potential.

What topics will we cover?

Drawing, painting and patternmaking; photomontage and image manipulation; colourways and fonts; page layout; printing methods and scanning; file management and saving of digital designs.
Experiment with all the painting, drawing and mask making tools, scanned artwork and photographs.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Understand basic Photoshop features.
Feel confident and competent in using a computer and experimenting in Photoshop for further design work on your own.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Beginners are expected at this introductory course. Basic skills will be covered working towards a greater understanding and development of ideas.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The computers are Apple Macintosh with Photoshop compatible to PC. The course structure consists of a programme of structured pracvtical exercises, demonstrations and discussions. One to one help and advice is given throughout.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Books will be recommended but are not essential purchases. Printing costs are covered on the course. A CD-R will also be provided to store work.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Your tutor will give you feedback both individually and through group discussion.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.

There is a range of more advanced and specialised courses using Photoshop on offer at the City Lit that allow you to build on your newly acquired skills and knowledge. Open access sessions in the Digital Arts Studio also allow you to expand on what you have already achieved at your own pace.
