Learn how to use a variety of animation techniques including drawn, cut-outs and 3D model animation and develop your narrative film-making skills. You will use aspects of a range of different applications, including iStopmotion, After Effects, Photoshop and iMovie, suited to the different techniques you will be exploring.
Session 1: Introduction to the camera and capturing 'stop frame' animation on the computer. Group exercises in stop frame / pixillated movement.
Sessions 2-4: Using models to create a short, 3D, narrative, animated sequence.
Session 5: Introduction editing animation in iMovie.
Session 6: Exercises in drawn animation using a range of materials to produce different animated effects.
Session 7 Introduction to cut-out animation in After Effects using animated transformations
Session 8 Introduction to creating a multi layered animation in After Efffects
Session 9-10: Editing all work in iMovie with sound. Exporting movies and burning DVDs.

This is an introductory course. You should have some experience of using a computer.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

You can also develop your skills in editing in the intermediate and advanced editing courses at City Lit. You can also use your work to progress to and gain more from higher level course in animation, multi media or the digital moving image.
