Course outline

What is the course about?

Throughout the year there will be a series of talks from well-known film makers. They will present and contextualise examples of their film work and invite contributions and questions from the audience. This is a unique experience to enhance your own professional development in film-making.

What topics will we cover?

The different film makers will represent a range of professional contemporary practice including, documentary, narrative and experimental forms and approaches. The talk will be determined by the Film maker but will offer the opportunity to gain an awareness of the decisions and processes involved in determining the form and content of a specific film-makers work. You will also have an opportunity to find out about the process of gaining funding and how this impacts on the process of film making.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

The different film makers will represent a range of professional contemporary practice including, documentary , narrative and experimental forms and approaches. Each talk will offer you the opportunity to:
- Gain an awareness of some of the decisions and processes involved in determining the form of a specific film- makers work.
- Gain an awareness of some of the decisions and processes involved in determining the content of a film-makers work.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is open to all. No prior knowledge is required.

You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The session will be delivered by the visiting practitioner followed by discussion and question and answer session.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
