What is the course about?

A course to develop your skills with drawing elements such as line, form and composition. Using a variety of techniques you will evolve a fluid and dynamic approach, enabling confidence in drawing, and exploring the potential to move into painting. The course will include a visit to a museum or historic building for a sketching tour and we will develop these sketches into full-scale drawings.

What topics will we cover?

A course to develop your drawing skills, exploring:

- Make use of tone and line to express form
- Use a variety of materials to make a composition
- Use imagination to develop a full-scale drawing.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

From beginner to improver – all levels.

You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.

Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Using a variety of techniques designed to help you break out of old habits and loosen up. Practical work will involve drawing from observation, using a variety of materials including charcoal, chalk and ink. There will also be demonstrations, group discussions and one-to-one tutoring.

Yes. Possible entrance fee to museum on sketching tour. Please also bring a sketchbook.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
