This course is about:
- developing your observational drawing skills using a variety of materials and techniques
- broadening your ideas about drawing using experimental methods
- providing a stimulating atmosphere for personal discovery in drawing
- exploring visual language in drawing by looking at a variety of artists' work.
- observational drawing methods such as proportional measuring, tone, and composition
- mark-making
- drawing as a research tool – eg sketching, information gathering
- experimental drawing systems.

Before enrolling, it is recommended that you have completed Drawing 1 and Drawing Continued, or have gained equivalent experience.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.

Weekly projects will form the base from which individual study programmes will be developed. In the first term you will be guided through several processes to produce abstract paintings referring to specific artists or genres. In the second term you will develop an individual approach to making abstract paintings.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
