A challenging and exciting 10 weeks, learning to draw a collection of unpromising objects and turn them into Art.
The teaching was clear and constructive; serious but always fun; prescriptive but permissive... If you followed the instructions, you could not help but improve your powers of observation, of mark making, of awareness of composition... The term was a journey and an adventure. Previous drawing experience was necessary and helped a lot.

I was looking to improve my approach to drawing and this course did everything I wanted it to. Not having done any drawing for many a year, I was unsure how I would cope. I needn't have worried, with the encouragement of a great tutor I feel ready to embark on other projects. Thank you [the tutor] and City Lit

I would strongly recommend this course to people wishing to develop their drawing skills - especially if they are seeking to produce accurate depictions of what they see. The objects to be drawn were not of themselves interesting, but the drawing tasks based on them were challenging and absorbing. The teaching was excellent, with lots of encouraging and valuable feedback matched to the different needs of people in the group.

It has been many years since I was formally tutored in art and specifically drawing. I was a little apprehensive at the start of the course but soon felt at ease in the studio with the help of a dynamic teacher. I received valuable guidance on composition, perspective, ton es and used a number of mediums to draw with that included pencil, charcoal, Indian ink and white pastel. I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone who wished to be reintroduced to the world of drawing for pleasure or to start amassing a portfolio of work for further study.

I've just finished VH424, and it was just what I needed to make the shift from being able to draw things to being able to make a 'picture'. The tutor taught us a lot about form, perspective and composition but also about drawing expressively. The trip to Tate Modern to draw the riverside and the following session using what we had drawn were the highlights.
