To work from a long pose
To produce a sustained painting/drawing/mixed media piece or a number of pieces working from the same pose.
To improve skills for material use and/or colour mixing.
To improve skills in observational an /or expressive painting/drawing.
The pose will be sustained over three sessions. You can decide individually, and in discussion with the tutor, which medium to use and whether you want to work on a sustained piece or a number of pieces.
- understand more fully the nature and possibilities of portraiture
- have the concentration required to work from a long pose
- produce a sustained painting/mixed media/drawing or a number of pieces.
- articulate the reasons for your chosen medium, composition and language/style, showing your ability to assess your own work and skills
- critique your, and fellow students', aims and objectives, through an analysis of work in progress and the final pieces.
Not suitable for beginners or students working in watercolour.
Suitable for intermediate and advanced levels working in oils, acrylic, mixed media and drawing media.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
Individual tutorials dependent on each student's level and objectives. There will also be group crits and discussions.
Please bring in the painting supports you wish to use (eg canvases, boards) ready primed. Please also bring your own palette knives and brushes if you have them, although some brushes can be provided in class. Paper, drawing media, acrylic and oil paints will be provided.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
