This course will provide a basic introduction to drawing and design with the software Illustrator CS3. Through practical exercises, you will gain experience in the techniques now available to graphic designers and illustrators.
• Introduction to Illustrator’s workspace
• Working with colour: applying fills, strokes, gradients and patterns to objects
• An introduction to using the pen tools
• Using varied drawing tools and techniques to create, edit and manipulate artwork
• Working with type in Illustrator including, type to outlines and type on a path
• Saving, filing and exporting work for future development.
• Create basic drawings and designs using Illustrator
• Use the Bezier pen tool to create and modify simple paths
• Create and apply art brushes to existing paths (shapes/drawings)
• Manipulate artwork using the selection and transformation tools.
No previous knowledge of Illustrator is required but you will need some experience using the Apple Mac or, if PC based, using creative software on a PC.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

The course consists of practical exercises, mini-tasks, discussions and demonstrations. Mini-tasks will be supported by one-to-one tuition where necessary.
