This course will give you a basic knowledge of the traditional enamel / cloisonné technique.
- How to prepare everything for enamel cloisonné
- How to use equipment and tools for enamel (oven and opaque enamel colours)
- How to work with a mock up (sketch)
- How you can bring glass and metal to an enhancing union.
- Understand the process of the traditional enamel / cloisonné technique
- Use tools and equipment safely
- Work to a simple design
- Finish at least one enamel “colour fireworks“ piece.
Have fun working with your hands and love colours! Metal jewellery making skills would be a benefit, but are not necessary.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, handouts and for health and safety information, and will be able to take part in group discussions. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
The tutor will show examples, and will demonstrate step-by-step how to work with the traditional enamel / cloisonné technique. This is a very hands on course – you will learn by following the demonstrated processes. There will be on-going individual practical tutorials.
All materials are provided. Please bring a notebook, coloured pencils and scissors. All tools are provided but please feel free to bring your own pliers, tweezers, hammer, saw and files if you wish.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
