The course will explore the human form through experimental approaches in drawing, painting, printing and collage. Each session will focus upon a certain theme relevant to contemporary art practice and will utilise different techniques, discussions and concepts. This will enable you to develop a more informed modern approach of how you can portray the human form.
Each session will consist of a range of creative activities around a particular theme, sometimes with the presence of a life model as reference and other times using imagination and conceptual approaches. As with each session focusing on contemporary issues, you will also be introduced to relevant artists’ who deal with the same themes. These sessions will allow you to engage with modern art practice through experimental practical exercises that utilise drawing and the figure as its starting points.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
• apply conceptual thinking to material processes
• begin an understanding of a range of contemporary artists whose work relates to the figure
• apply a range of experimental techniques in relation to contemporary art.
• create a body of work around a theme.
Some drawing experience will be useful but all levels are welcome. A willingness to experiment with materials is a must.
Lessons will be taught on site in a series of practical workshops and discussions.
All materials are provided but you may be asked to bring in various commonly found materials for collage and / or mixed media.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
