An introduction to the skills of watercolour and how to use it in a creative, experimental and contemporary way, in conjunction with still life.
Mark-making with watercolour; colour mixing, both tonal and chromatic; and painting from objective reality. There will be a longer term project and some homework, either studying art historical images or making a museum visit.
Have confidence in watercolour painting.
Recognise different kinds of watercolour paper.
Recognise the techniques and skills of watercolour painting.
Use tone in relation to a still life.
For people who have had little experience of watercolour. It can be seen as a refresher course.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
There will be an introduction as a group, then individual practice. Your work will be evaluated individually and as a group.
There will be a limited amount of watercolour paints provided throughout the course. If you wish to purchase your own paints and brushes, advice and a materials list will be provided during the first session. Paper can also be purchased from the tutor.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
