You will discover creative and surprising results in the printmaking studio by drawing directly onto the surface of a printing plate and putting it through the press. You will discover endless possibilities for developing your own work.
A structured set of activities to show the various possiblities. We will cover:
- trace monoprints
- inking up
- drawing directly on paper laid down, with no press required
- deductive monotype, where the plate is inked and drawn back with a variety of materials, and then pulled through the press
- additive monoprints, where interesting experimental materials are added to the image by inking separately or embedding on the plate, also using the press for final, often unusual, images.
- use a printing press and range of monoprinting techniques
- experiment with personal approaches to the medium and your own imagery.
- explore the subtleties that basic printing methods can offer
- use printmaking as a point of departure for your own practice.
Students are welcomed as beginners or with some experience.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
You will be taught through a series of carefully introduced processes, with individual help. There will be some demonstrations, looking at the tutor's work and a short class discussion of the work produced.
The only things you need to bring are ideas and images.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
