What is the course about?

Exploring creative methods of simple printmaking, without using a press.

What topics will we cover?

Will cover monoprint, linocut, collagraph and some other relief techniques, with the aim of providing knowledge and resources to enable learners to continue printmaking at home with inexpensive equipment and simple materials. It would be helpful to bring sketchbooks, photos or other imagery from which to work, although a theme will be suggested.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

• Use several monoprint methods to explore line, tone & texture
• Use linocut, collagraph & other simple relief printing methods
• Colour ink mixing & printing in layers.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No previous knowledge necessary, although some experience of drawing will be helpful.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Through demonstrations, individual instruction & group discussion, visual aids & written handouts.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will need to provide disposable vinyl gloves and an overall for working with printing inks and solvents. The course fee includes all materials although you will be encouraged to source scrap materials for experimental printing.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Your tutor will give you feedback both individually and through group discussion. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.

How do I find out if I can get some support for my learning?
