Develop 3 dimensional skills of expression though the study of your own face and that of a model.
Explore ways of seeing yourself and others both objectively and subjectively. For all abilities.
There will be 3 sessions:
The first week will be a full size self –portrait relief, concentrating on reproducing your features while thinking about identity, subjectivity and objectivity, accuracy and inaccuracy. In the second and third sessions you will make a half size full head from the model, exploring expressive ways of working and facial expression.
During the course we will look at portraits made by a variety of artists working in different ways. Modelling will be done in terracotta clay, which will be fired when dry.
- Make a life-size self-portrait relief
- Make one half-size portrait head from the model
- Explore ways of seeing yourself and others both objectively and subjectively
- Manipulate clay and prepare it for firing.
Ideal for more experienced modellers but beginners are welcome.
Support is available if you think you would benefit from help with following written or verbal instructions in English or with working independently. Please contact the 'Skills for learning and life' team on 020 7492 2511 for more information.
