A grand day out: Winchester Cathedral

Course Dates: 20/05/17
Time: 11:00 - 16:00
Location: OS - Off Site

Winchester Cathedral is one of the most magnificent churches in the country and one of the largest cathedrals in Europe. Discover the cathedral and its treasures during this one-day location-based course. Transport costs not included.

What is the course about?

Winchester Cathedral has a fascinating architectural history, ranging from the Anglo-Saxon period to the late Middle Ages. The transepts are a prime example of late 11th century Romanesque architecture, to which the late Perpendicular nave forms a striking contrast. Come and explore the basics of English medieval church architecture and familiarise yourself with different period styles.
Winchester Cathedral also contains a vast array of medieval church furnishings, including a twelfth-century font, and rare survivals of medieval wall paintings. One of its glories is the Winchester Bible, one of the largest and most sumptuously illuminated twelfth-century manuscripts, which is on display in the cathedral.
Please note: Your transport costs are not included.
