What is the course about?

This is a fun course introducing you to 'Bollywood dance’ (A pun on Hollywood) It is a beginners class introducing you to basic techniques and exercises which will provide a fun and practical class. You will learn vibrant Bollywood routines as seen in the colourful movies and TV shows, and improve your dance and performance skills, by boogieing to the Bollywood beat.

What will we cover?

Each lesson will start with a warm-up, hand and arm combinations, and isolations, followed by corner to corner exercises. You will learn moves to perform a Bollywood routine from popular Hindi movies.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Demonstrate isolation of body parts to define movements
Use co-ordination and spatial awareness in relation to dance
Develop and increase your flexibility and stamina.
Demonstrate improved knowledge and musicality
Perform a Bollywood dance with confidence and flair.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is for beginners or those that are new to the Bollywood dance style.

In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms and syncopations within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course has a physical approach from beginning to end with structured exercises to improve different qualities. The class is tutor led and you will be taught through demonstration and explanation. During the class participants will be given an opportunity to demonstrate the work and receive verbal feedback from your tutor. We encouraged you to work in your own time to perfect the work but there is no formal requirement to do so.

HEALTH CHECK
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please wear clothing that does not restrict your movement and allows you to adapt to changes in your body temperature. Tights, leotard or clothing that does not restrict movement will allow your tutor to see your work more clearly. Jazz shoes/sneakers or similar, no outdoor shoes please. Jock straps should be worn by men. Students to tie their hair back if it is long for their own safety and comfort. Jewellery should be removed at the start of the class.

Clinton Goldsmith

Clinton trained at Performers College and has worked with artistes such as Blue, The Sugababes, Lionel Ritchie, Geri Halliwell, Robbie Williams, Alexandra Burke, Joss Stone and Kylie Minogue to name but a few….He toured America with Greek artist ‘Anna Vissi’, and in Australia he was one of the four members of pop band ‘Deuce’ ! Clinton has taught all over London at dance colleges including London Studio Centre, Reynolds Performing Arts, Mandy Ellen Performing Arts, Danceworks, Pineapple and Chichester University. Previous creidts include MTV Music Awards, The Brit Awards, T4, Party in The Park, Mobo Awards, Royal Variety Show, BBC’s French and Saunders Special – Mamma Mia, The Lilly Savage Show, Star for a Night, ‘Wetten Das TV show’ in Germany performing the musical ‘Saturday Night Fever’ and numerous times on CD:UK and Top Of The Pops. Most recently he has choreographed for Givenchy, Fendi, Diesel, Wella, Top Shop, Xbox-Dance Central, the launch night of Celebrity Big Brother for Channel 5, ‘Sahara’ concert in Delhi, India and The Skills Show at the Birmingham NEC. Clinton is happy and excited to be teaching and passing on his knowledge here at City Lit.
