Counselling

Whether you want to explore counselling as a personal interest, would like to train to become a counsellor, or are already working in the profession and need training to develop your professional skills, there's plenty of courses to choose from at City Lit. We offer a range of part-time counselling courses, including evening classes, daytime and weekend courses.

  1. Certificate in counselling skills

    This course includes occasional weekend sessions (approximately once per term) which you will be required to join.

    In order to apply for this course, please ensure that:

    • you have (or will have) completed an introductory counselling course of 30 hours, with an attendance record of at least 80% (within the last three years)

    OR

    • you have completed an introductory counselling course of 30 hours with an attendance record of at least 70% AND you have completed a ‘Counselling introduction: advanced’ course (or equivalent) with an attendance record of at least 80% (within the last three years)

    • you are able to speak and write fluently in English (level 2/GCSE).

    The course fee is £800, plus an upfront fee of £699 payable at the time of your enrolment.

    If you’re unable to pay the course fee upfront, you can choose to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan from the Student Loans Company to help cover the cost, repayable after the course ends. You can find more information about the Advanced Learner Loan www.citylit.ac.uk/advanced-learner-loans

  3. Counselling: an introduction

    Course Date: Wed 26 Apr 2017 (and 4 other dates)

    Enhance your personal skills, learn more about yourself and take your first step in counselling training on this primarily experiential course, underpinned by the theory of the person centred approach. Please note that students who do not attend at least one of the first two sessions will forfeit their place and lose their fee. This course is exempt from our standard refund policy.

  4. Diploma in therapeutic counselling: integrative pathway

    This two-year course qualifies you to practise as a counsellor. You will need to have completed a level 3 certificate in counselling skills course within the last three years to be eligible to apply.

  6. Introduction to psychodynamic counselling

    This course will take you from Freud through to the present day, demonstrating a more relational experience for the client. Examine the unconscious, the presenting past and issues in early development.

  7. Introduction to psychosynthesis
