What is the course about?

This is designed for adults who have had previous experience in Tap dance to a reasonably high level. A good understanding of the techniques involved would be important and the teacher will help to develop these skills, build confidence and increase your dance vocabulary.
The intermediate classes will expand your tap knowledge and extend your expertise and skill through learning challenging but also fun Tap moves. You will increase your vocabulary of steps, time-steps and sequences and will learn a progressive routine that will encourage you to perform with an emphasis on rhythm and syncopation. It is hoped that the routine will be filmed at the end of the course and shared through a video sharing website.

What will we cover?

You will develop your Tap knowledge and improve your expertise and skill through learning challenging but also fun Tap moves that will increase your vocabulary of steps, time-steps and sequences. Use various progressive Tap moves, steps and sequences.
Demonstrate several progressive time-steps.
Perform, using your body in a creative way when dancing.

• Follow spoken instructions.
• Use numbers to recognise musical phrasing within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

HEALTH CHECK
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

It is essential to have good shoes and Tap shoes are necessary for this class. Having the correct shoes can really improve your technique and give you a much better feeling for the style of dance. The Tap shoes should be fitted with tap plates using screw fittings (no rivets). There are specialist stockists in and around Covent Garden which can provide appropriate footwear. Clothing should be comfortable and loose.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Continue with the intermediate Tap class or speak to the drama, dance and speech department for advice and guidance on what to do next.
