The course is about discovering and considering the medieval manuscript collection at the British Library.
During the visit we will consider how manuscripts were made and how they were used.
- Understand who commissioned the production of these manuscripts
- Understand who made these manuscripts
- Be aware of some of the processes involved in the production of these manuscripts.
- Understand the use of these manuscripts.
The course is suitable for beginners; you do not need to have studied art history before. However, it will also be suitable for students with some knowledge of the subject.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths.
There will be a guided tour round the manuscripts display at the British Library.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. All students complete a 'statement of learning' form at the beginning and end of the course to assess their achievement.
