The course is a chance to discover and discuss the latest trends in British art.
As well as an overview of the Turner Prize, 2011’s nominees will be covered in depth.
• Understand the function and history of the Turner Prize
• Recognise the work of this year’s contenders
• Discuss the art of a variety of artists in context with greater confidence
• Express an informed personal response.
The course is open to all. No prior knowledge of the subject is required.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
There will be slide presentations by the tutor with the opportunity for group discussion throughout.There will also be some pair and small group activities. Handouts including slide lists will be provided.
Only the cost of getting to the exhibition. You are advised to bring notebooks to the classes.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
