In this course we will learn about the art in the age of the Warrior Pharaoh Tuthmosis. We will explore the influences of Bronze age Greece and the Levant on the art of the Nile Valley. We will examine the aesthetics and artefacts of these temples and monuments and consider how they reflect and represent the power of this great empire established in his reign.
We will learn how Egypt creates an empire and establishes itself as a great power in the Near East under the Warrior Pharaoh Tuthmosis. We will explore the temples and monuments created worthy of this great power. We will consider how contact with Bronze Age Greece and the Levant enriched and transformed the conservative art of the Nile Valley.

- Analyse and understand the literature relating to this period.
- Use appropriate evidence and strategies for analysing this ancient imagery.
This course is an introduction to the subject and can be taken with no previous knowledge. You should be aware that there are often different viewpoints on these topics, and a willingness to explore alternative explanations and values is important.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs, and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to make simple calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
There will be illustrated lectures, discussions, questions, readings and the analysis of original texts (in translation), and a museum visit. Making your own museum visits and reading outside the course will greatly enhance your experience.
