This is a course for beginners in pottery. The course will give students an introduction to throwing on the wheel. Simple surface decoration, glazing and firing will also be taught.
The aim of this course is to teach basic throwing skills. You will also learn how to decorate and glaze your work, and kiln firing will be explained.
- Make simple thrown forms.
- Decorate the forms with different surface decoration techniques.
- Glaze your work using department glazes
- Understand how the work is fired.
This course is for newcomers to pottery.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.

There will be a cost of £1.50 per 500g of clay before the first firing. Unfired clay will not be charged for.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
