Create innovative virtual sculptures and explore simple, practical model making. Use Sketchup software and hands on techniques to develop and visualise your ideas in 3 dimensional and digital form. You will learn to build three dimensional models from a variety of materials and how to use the software Sketchup Pro to support the design development. This course has applications for all 3D disciplines, Sculpture, Design, Architecture and Model Making.
-Model making with a variety of materials; wood, metal, plastics, card.
Using Sketchup-pro:
-Exporting drawings to different formats.
-Drawing to scale.
-Simple Quick-Time animations.
-Realizing drawings in 3-dimensions.
-Applying textures and materials to surfaces.
-Lighting and geo-positioning your model.
- Produce three-dimensional models in a range of materials.
- Work independently and creatively with the software to produce drawings and animations.
- Export your work in several different formats for use in other programs.
The course is an introduction. Previous experience of drawing is helpful but not essential. Basic computer familiarity is important. This course is for anyone with an interest in 3D modelmaking techniques.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
The course will be a mixture of group and one to one tuition. There will be some assignments to complete outside of the class times. There is a freely available version of Sketchup you can use on your own computer if you wish.
Basic materials and equipment are provided. You might wish to bring a pencil and notebook. You need to purchase a USB memory stick prior to the course - this is essential to save your work.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
