Course outline

What is the course about?

This course will build on your skills in drawing and designing with the professional software Adobe Illustrator. Through practical exercises you will consolidate and develop your design and illustration skills and work towards mini projects that will enhance your digital portfolio.
Ideally students should have completed the course ‘Adobe Illustrator: An introduction.’.

What topics will we cover?

- Working with colour, gradients, blends and meshes you will learn to creatively shade illustrations.
- Using the pen tools to manipulate paths and curves with confidence.
- Using pressure sensitive drawing tools and different techniques to create and manipulate artwork
- Understand and explore creative typography
- Saving, filing and exporting work for use in other applications.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Shade illustrations using colour, gradients, blends and meshes.
- Use the pen tools to manipulate paths and curves with confidence.
- Use pressure sensitive drawing tools and different techniques to create and manipulate artwork
- Have an understanding of creative typography
- Save, file and export work for use in other applications.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Ideally students should have completed the course ‘Adobe Illustrator: An introduction.’

You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course consists of practical exercises, mini-projects, discussions and demonstrations. Mini-projects will be supported by individual assistance as and when appropriate.

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
