The course helps to understand the importance of good quality sound in video projects and how to use sound to enhance the impact of the video piece. The course is practical introduction to Soundtrack Pro and sound editing that shows video editors the workflow from edit stage to sound mix.
A full scheme of work will be given out at the first session.
- Different sound file types and how to convert them to specific uses
- Importing material from editing software (Final Cut Pro) to Soundtrack Pro and exporting a final sound mix
- The basic sound editing tools in Soundtrack pro and how use them confidently.

Basic understanding of video editing would be a benefit (eg. Final Cut Pro ).
Please note that you will be using Apple Macs. If you are not confident about using Apple Macs you might find our course ‘Using Apple Mac computers: an introduction’ that runs each term, useful.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
There won’t be any homework but it would be beneficial to go through the exercises and handouts at home.
