A digital portfolio is a showcase of the talent and creativity. A series of lectures and activities will introduce the importance of developing an appropriate digital presence and the tools and techniques by which this can be achieved.

A digital portfolio is a showcase of the talent and creativity. A series of lectures and activities will introduce the importance of developing an appropriate digital presence and the tools and techniques by which this can be achieved. During the course students develop a creative digital portfolio in preparation for interviews. Working individually with the tutor and in groups, students begin the selection of representative pieces of work that showcase a unique style and demonstrate their conceptual and technical abilities to be presented in a digital format (pdf and web).

- Optimizing work for digital media

- Digital techniques for collecting and preparing the digital portfolio.
- Demonstrate knowledge of design principles for portfolio preparation and presentation
- Demonstate an understanding of current digital communication channels
- Initiate and undertake independent research to identify current best practice
in the use of digital communication for self-promotion
- Use relevant software to create a digital portfolio for self-promotion (pdf and web).
This is an introductory course in creating pdf and web based portfolios. Therefore, a basic experience of using Apple Macs is necessary. If you are not confident about using Apple Macs you might find our course ‘Using Apple Mac computers: an introduction’ that runs each term, useful.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

The course structure consists of demonstrations, discussions and practical exercises. One to one guidance and support will be given throughout. Some independent study will be assigned to developing a digital portfolio and self-promotion portfolio.
No other costs. You will be expected to bring in some examples of your work in a digital format. Please bring an A4 plain paper sketchpad, a pencil and a memory stick to store your work.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
