Course outline

What is the course about?

What topics will we cover?

The course will cover a variety of advanced shaping and textured stitches, using 4.5 mm hook and basic dk light coloured yarn, such as shaping and chevron stitches using increasing and decreasing, working in the round to create circles and granny squares and developing more complicated motifs in the round.

We will also cover striping and joining yarn, edgings, lace stitches, cluster stitches, raised stitches and crocheted cables as well as reading patterns and beginning to make complex projects.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

• Demonstrate knowledge of advanced crochet techniques
• Demonstrate confidence in working with advanced crochet
• Develop and produce several samples and swatches of the techniques learned be able to begin a crochet project from a pattern.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is for intermediate/improver crocheters, you must know the basic stitches of dc, treble and half treble to progress well on the course.

You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught by demonstration, group and individual tuition and discussion and through practical work.You will be taken through the techniques individually as well as with group demonstrations. Advice will be given on other courses and classes to develop skills learnt.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will need a 4mm, 4.5mm and/or a 5mm hook and a couple of contrast balls of wool or a wool mix in dk weight in light colours.

Sketch books are also advisable so you can collect visual information, record any new techniques and collect hand outs. Digital cameras are also useful to record any new stitches/fabric and mark making done during the course.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
