Course outline

What is the course about?

We will look at how to use resins safely and creatively to add interest and colour to jewellery.

What topics will we cover?

We will cover: health and safety, using resins as enamels, gel resins in rings, how to embed objects, how to clean up resin safely, and techniques to remedy air bubbles and other problems.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- understand the principles of mixing and 'curing' resin,
- clean up and polish resin,
- understand what it is practical to put resin in.
- mix colours and embed objects.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suitable for beginners and experienced jewellery makers alike. The tutor will bring jewellery blanks for those who don’t have their own to use.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught in a group with talk, demonstrations and individual tuition and there won’t be any work outside the class.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Most materials are included in the course fee. You will be given a list of inexpensive materials to bring e.g. old newspapers, plastic cups, cotton wool and kitchen towell.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.

How do I find out if I can get some support for my learning?
