Learning various techniques to create jewellery with fabric.
You will start with hand embroidery to create a neckpiece. Then you will learn how to make jewellery with a variety of small fabric pieces and then move onto more complicated techniques of machine embroidery and how to use constructed textiles i.e. macramé and knitting in your work. You will also learn how to do simple fabric manipulation and how to use lace pieces. We will look at what beads and findings to use/make and how historical jewellery has influenced contemporary design.

This course is for all abilities.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, handouts and for health and safety information, and will be able to take part in group discussions. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
You will be taught through demonstration with one to one tutorial support with handouts and reference materials.
Tools and equipment: We supply sewing machines, needles, scissors, thread, fabric, beads and findings for you to experiment with the techniques taught. However, the materials provided are limited and you will be recommended to buy your own special fabrics, beads and laces as you progress and wish to realise your own designs. The tutor will give you advice on suppliers. You may like to bring your own basic sewing kit if you have one.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
