What is the course about?

The course is about learning and developing skills and techniques to create jewellery from a range of materials outside of a traditional jewellery studio.

What topics will we cover?

- what materials and tools to use
- basic beaded jewellery construction
- basic design techniques and looking at historical jewellery
- bead and wire twisting
- bead weaving
- how to create jewellery with fabric and mixed media including knitting and crochet
- knotting between beads and pearls.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

• Meet the goals you set with help from the tutor.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is for all levels, and the skills you need will be taught throughout.

You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught as a group, through demonstration and discussion, and through one-to-one informal discussion and tutorials. You may want to finish work off at home. Going to bead shops and events will help develop your subject knowledge.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Basic materials will be supplied but you may want to collect your own beads, tools, findings and books.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
