An outdoor sketching course designed to take advantage of London’s diverse architecture and the people who interact with it, as a rich resource of inspiring and exciting subject matter for drawing and painting, followed on by two days at the end, to develop sketches into paintings in the studio.
We will use a variety of drawing materials to explore the city and it’s people; drawing and painting from observation and collecting information in sketchbooks. With reference to many artists, we will experiment with different approaches to interpreting the landscape of the city. Each week we will meet at a different location e.g. River Thames, Borough Market, St Pancreas Station, Regent’s Park, Camden Market, then follow on with two days in the studio to develop work further.
- Build up a sketchbook for research
- Develop methods of gathering visual information
- Feel comfortable with drawing outside in public spaces
- Make use of a variety of drawing materials to sketch outside in different locations
- Look at, and take inspiration from, the work and practice of a variety of artists.
Suitable for all levels; students need to have an interest in working outdoors and a willingness to discover different London locations.
