Course outline

What is the course about?

This course provides an exciting opportunity to extend your painting practise with guidance from two experienced tutors. Students will be given practical support to deepen their knowledge of materials and techniques and be encouraged to identify areas of interest and personal approaches to making paintings. A look at recent developments in painting will be included in the course as a focus for group discussion and reflection. By application only. What topics will we cover?

Over ten weeks we will explore a range of materials and methods of painting, strategies for establishing and developing a body of work and learn about contemporary developments in painting.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Understand how to achieve three different painting techniques
- Identify subject matter of interest to you
- Collect reference material to explore a body of work
- Develop conscious strategies when embarking on a series of paintings.
- Have greater confidence and independence in your working methods
- Be familiar with the work of a variety of contemporary painters.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a course suitable for students who have completed previous courses in painting or have a reasonable level of experience.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

By demonstration, practical projects, handouts, one to one tutoring and group discussion and reviews.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Art materials are provided. You will be asked to look for and provide your own reference materials such as sketches and photographs.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

This course requires the completion of an application form.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
