What is the course about?

Over the period of one academic year, you will develop your own artwork and attend a series of work-based seminars facilitated by members of the tutor team. You will have the opportunity to submit your work for critical discussion, receive personal tutorials and participate in guided on-line discussion.

What topics will we cover?

Over the year, you will:
- develop and sustain a programme of personal or collaborative fine art practice.
- develop critical understanding of personal work, and contribute to a discussion forum to discuss, evaluate and support the work created by others, within a peer group
- create and develop an on-line portfolio, which may form the basis of discussion and interchange, and act as a preparation for submissions and applications.
- use the programme to prepare, with mentoring and practical guidance, for submission to an exhibition, an art-related project or a higher level course.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

-
- develop and sustain personal work
- feel increadingly adept at assessing your progress and results
- relate your work to various aspects of contemporary fine art practice and participate confidently in ciritcal disucssion
- explore a possible context for your work and make a relevant application/submission as required
- present an on-line portfolio and a personal approach to representing your work.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You will have completed a higher level course, such as the foundation course, the City Lit fine art course, the City Lit sculpture course or equivalent, and you will be interested in identifying personal goals and contexts for your artwork.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be expected to develop your personal practice outside of seminar sessions and personal tutorial hours.
You will be expected to post images for discussion and contribute to a discussion forum outside set hours.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

If you do not have access to a computer, you will be able to arrange access to a PC at City Lit, in the supported learning centre.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions. *PLEASE NOTE - all interviews have taken place and all spaces have been offered.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.

How do I find out if I can get some support for my learning?

You may be interested in: education and careers advice; financial and childcare support; disability support; support for Deaf and hearing-impaired students; dyslexia support; English and maths support; counselling, and library services (supported learning centre).
