A practical introduction to painting with a contemporary approach, looking at the basic materials, equipment and methods needed to get started.
The formal elements of making a painting through various exercises, including colour, tone and composition. Looking at 20th century and contemporary painting to understand methods and techniques.
- identify and organise the equipment and materials used for painting
- mix colour and produce tonality from a limited palette
- develop application skills in drawing and painting with acrylic paint
- recognise various styles and techniques in paintings.
Beginners welcome, as well as those with a little experience of either drawing or painting.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.

Through demonstrations, exercises and projects with group and one-to-one tuition.
The basic materials are provided but you will be encouraged to bring in other equipment such as brushes and papers.
