Course outline

What is the course about?

Explore the richness of creativity and imagination through painting and meditation incorporating a variety of painting methods and guided exercises. The aim of the course is to step aside one's formal understanding and to engage directly with ones perception, energy and imagination. This course is complementary with, and a valuable addition to, more formal drawing courses.

What topics will we cover?

During the course we will explore new ways of seeing and different ways of engaging with painting and the imagination. We will work from imagination and from life and will engage in exercises that access and sustain your inner resources, imagination and concentration, which will include, for example, short guided meditations and simple movement exercises that can be adapted to individual need. We will explore the expressive possibilities of colour, ways of developing your own subject matter and means of articulating your experience directly through the medium of paint. You will develop a toolkit of painting methods and ideas that will inform your work into the future.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

• Apply methods for accessing and developing concentration and creative imagination
• Create a body of work involving short exercises and more sustained work
• Explore colour as a vehicle for articulating mood, feeling and symbol
• Participate in a range of unconventional and conventional painting processes
• Develop a painting from your imagination
• Participate in group and individual exercises involving movement and meditation.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Suitable for all levels - beginners as well as those with more experience. Bring an open mind and be prepared to let go and experiment.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Basic materials provided.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
