An introduction to an exciting and innovative approach to printmaking. This course is about discovering, through exploration, ways of producing creative and expressive prints, thereby extending your printed work to create your own unique style of imagery.
We will cover the basics of relief and intaglio printmaking to produce a block print or an etching. You will be encouraged to explore collage as an expressive process to extend your work to create monoprints, including using paint and drawing inks to enhance the final imagery.
- develop imagery from personal source material
- design and print a block print or an etching
- utilise collage and a mix of media as an aid to developing composition
- incorporate collage in the printing process.
No previous experience is required but basic drawing skills would be an advantage.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
Demonstrations of techniques will be given when new methods are introduced. There will be one-to-one discussions and guidance.
The course fee covers some basic materials such as inks, acid and white spirit. You must bring source images (sketches, postcards, magazine cuttings, photos etc,) for reference/visual inspiration to the first session.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
