This is a course for all ability levels. A short project will be set which will form the basis for the day’s work. If you are a beginner, you will be introduced to a variety of techniques and the basic skills needed to make a sculpture using paper. You will also be introduced to the work of a wide range of sculptors.
This course will introduce aspects of sculptural language – figurative, abstract and conceptual, ancient, modern and contemporary.
The first part of the course will consist of looking at the work of different artists using paper in their sculpture. There will be a short talk on the different papers available and their qualities. The rest of the day will be spent experimenting with ways of working with paper and creating a piece of sculpture in paper.
- manipulate paper using a variety of techniques
- make at least one small sculpture in paper
- appreciate the subject, having looked at slides/digital media and photographs
- have a critical awareness of other sculptors' work
- have some insight and understanding of sculpture and three dimensional form.
This course is for all levels of ability.

A selection of equipment and tools is provided and basic materials are included in the course fee. You should bring a sketchbook and pencils (2B, 3B or 4B pencils are recommended).
