What is the course about?

A one day encounter with acting.

What topics will we cover?

Being on stage. Basic acting principles. Physical work. Theatre games. Looking at things that get in the way of successful communication and finding methods to overcome them.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Identify blocks and know how to work with them.
Identify and play action.
Come on stage and be in the moment.
Drop your guard and work more openly and freely with other actors.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Beginners.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback.
• Take part in class discussions.
• Read a script and/or related text.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be given lots of different games and exercises to perform with the group. The course is highly structured to give you maximum practical experience with clear learning goals which will be explained at every stage. You will learn from doing and from observing each other. You will be acting and observing all day.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please come wearing loose clothing suitable for exercise and be prepared to work barefoot or bring soft indoor shoes.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
