Course outline

What is the course about?


To explore the theory and learn the skills developed by leading conflict mediators and visionary masters of consciousness that can assist you to understand yourself and others in conflict. To discover, experience and develop your own ability to be creative with the tensions of everyday living. To recognize that one of the keys to transformative conflict in any situation from the home to the international arena is the developed ability of the persons involved to be aware of and open to the life affirming aspects of conflict. To put your increasing awareness and the emotional energy contained in conflict into the creative service of nurturing relationships and communities.

What topics will we cover?

We will explore the nature and function of conflict to assist you in understanding yourself and others in tense situations
The commonalities in the processes developed by leading conflict mediators and masters of consciousness that can help you access your own ability to be aware of the life affirming aspects of conflict
The practice of skills used by transforming conflict practioners and masters of consciousness to develop your own abilities to be creative with conflict
Practical guidance with everyday conflict situations using the knowledge and skills that you will have acquired on the course.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Understand the nature of conflict to understand yourself and others when conflict arises.
Begin to access your own ability to be aware of the life affirming aspects of conflict.
Begin to use the skills and the transforming power in conflict to start realising the relationships and communities that you aspire to create.
Continue to develop the skills that can increase your own ability to be creative with conflict.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Open to all. Please bear in mind that you can gain more learning on this course if your understanding of English enables you to follow the presentations on the topic as well as the instructions for the skills exercises. You will also probably increase your level of satisfaction on the course if you feel that your level of spoken English is adequate to your wish to put your experiences into words in order to participate in the small and large group reflexive dialogue.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

There will be a mix of theoretical input supported by handouts and facilitated lively experiential exercises which can be challenging as well as fun. You are encouraged to find your own level of participation in pairs, small groups and in the large group process. We will agree to a cooperative agreement to encourage and support your learning. There will be no other prescribed work that you will have to do outside the class. Follow your desire to increase and develop your own ability to be creative with conflict by continuing to practice the skills that you will have learnt on the course.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

None. You will be offered a reference list. Please bring pen and paper if you wish to make notes.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
