Leave a legacy

A gift that will have impact for years to come

Making a will is one way of looking after the people we care about.  It is also a way of helping those organisations that we have been passionate about in our lifetime.  This is an important decision, but it does not have to be complicated. 

The different ways you can make a lasting legacy gift to City Lit:

• Most legacy gifts are for general purposes which allows us to use the funds where they are most needed. You can either specify an amount of money, which is known as  Pecuniary Bequest, or a share of what is left over after all your wishes have been carried out, which is a Residuary Bequest.
  
  
• You can specify in your will that your preference for your gift be used to fund, for example, the student bursary scheme or a particular subject/department.  When incorporating a gift in this way it is most useful if this is stated as a preference, and not as a condition, wherever possible.

Seeking appropriate legal advice
We strongly recommended that you seek the appropriate legal advice when planning your legacy gift giving.  Leaving a gift could also have tax advantages and your solicitor or professional advisor should be able to give you the most appropriate advice. City Lit is unable to make any recommendations for your legal representation.  However you can find professionals in your area via the law society.
