The Access to HE Diploma – Drama, accredited by OCN, offers an exciting and disciplined course of study in practical drama training to enable students to progress to our Two Year Professional Acting Diploma or Drama School.
Divided into two groups, during this challenging course of study you will engage in working with experienced professional practitioners and teachers in Physical Theatre, Stanislavski, Shakespeare, Voice work and Musical Theatre. You will also work on the Methodologies of Meisner, Modern Monologues and Rehearsal to Performance classes. You will also work on Screen Acting in our purpose built TV/Film suite. The year completes with a Final Production with full production values, directed by a professional Guest Director.
Entry is via Audition:
The course is open to anyone who has completed a one year part-time drama Foundation course or equivalent, either at City Lit or elsewhere.
. You need to have memorised one modern and one classical monologue (Greek, Shakespeare or Jacobean) each of 2 minutes duration.
. Your ability to read and interpret text, to write clear and accurate short pieces of information on the application form and show evidence of working successfully in a collaborative context will also form part of the audition process.
. Those candidates who have not completed our Foundation course may be asked to execute either an Endowment or Object exercise as part of the audition.
The Access to HE Diploma – Drama is accredited through OCNLR (Open College Network London Region) and an Access certificate is awarded once the course has been successfully completed.
Bring 2 passport sized photographs.

A two year intensive Acting course for those wishing to progress from vocational study to a professional career in the arts. A full time course over 4 days from Monday to Thursday leaving 3 days in the week for further study and/or work.
You will work with industry Directors, Teachers, Agents and Casting Directors preparing you for the industry. You will receive individual mentoring and work within a tight collaborative unit. This will expand your creativity, confidence, skill and courage and will lead to a focused understanding of both collective and personal artistic development.
There is a focus on Performance coupled with rigorous methodological grounding. The second year acts as a self contained company continuing classes while performing both internally and in external venues. Please see course brochure or go online for more course details. You will be entitled to a Student Equity card and be able to enter the professional Spotlight directory and access its services. Upon graduation you will have your own screen show-reel, audio reel and have performed in an agents/CD showcase.
Each student will leave having developed their own voices as creative artists plus created a comprehensive business plan in order to be better equipped to step into the industry.
Entry by audition:
If you are 19 and over and have completed the Access course at City Lit or the equivalent 2 year experience elsewhere, or a working or returning artist wishing to hone skills and achieve greater exposure you are eligible.
Please prepare a song and a two minute modern and classical monologue and bring two passport sized photographs.

Full attendance over 30 weeks is essential. You should be 19 years old or over- there is no upper age limit. The course is fully accredited by Open College Network; successful participants are awarded a Credit Certificate.
Full day group auditions are held in July each year for which you will be required to demonstrate your speaking and listening skills. You need to have memorised an audition piece of no longer than 2 minutes from a modern play. Your ability to read and interpret text, to write clear and accurate short pieces of information on the application form and show evidence of working successfully in a collaborative context will also form part of the audition process.
Auditions for 2013-14 will be held in week beginning Monday 22nd July 2013 from 9.30am to 4pm. There is a non-returnable £15 audition fee and you must provide 2 passport-sized photographs.
Course dates below include tutorials. In addition there is a compulsory Induction session on Saturday 14th September 2013 (2-4.30pm) and a Sharing Practice Day on Saturday 11th January 2014(10am-2.45pm). Presentation of work will be in week beginning 2nd June 2014 and exit tutorials will be in w/c 9th June 2014. .

A one-year, part-time foundation course designed to further your existing knowledge and skills. This course is ideal if you're thinking of applying for full-time training, giving a real taster of what this requires. It is also useful for those who wish to test their capacity for and commitment to musical theatre and for those with a particular skill in acting, singing or dance who wish to strengthen other disciplines and thus work towards becoming a more ‘balanced’ theatre performer.
TERM 1 – REPERTORY & PORTFOLIO STUDY
TERM 2 – TECHNIQUE & PERFORMANCE STUDIES
TERM 3 – EXAM PREPARATION
Due to the nature of the course regular attendance is vital and you must be aged 19 years or over. You should have studied an aspect of musical theatre or be able to demonstrate potential in two major musical theatre disciplines (singing and acting) and a good level of competency in a third minor discipline (dancing). Private study and research will be required.
The course culminates in an Associate Diploma in Musical Theatre (ATCL) accredited by Trinity Guildhall.
Entry is by audition which is held on the 14 July 2012. Please prepare a song (piano accompaniment will be provided) a two minute modern monologue and dress appropriately for dance. Please also bring 2 passport-sized photographs. Please note that there is a non-refundable audition fee of £15.

A unique opportunity to explore all areas of technical theatre - lighting, sound, set design and stage management. Develop your skills in the classroom and practically, by applying several disciplines onto public performances at City Lit's John Lyon Hall. During terms 1 and 2, course runs Mondays 18.00 -21.15 and Wednesdays 19.20- 21.20. During term 3, course runs Monday and Wednesday 18.15 -21.15.
