A cappella singing

Meet the challenge of unaccompanied part-singing in a wide variety of musical styles. Reading skills will be helpful; good ears, good timing, and an established singing voice are essential. Performances will be arranged.

Advanced singers' workshop (performance)

For experienced singers with a stable vocal techniques, wishing to develop performance skills for both the recital platform and the stage. Entry by formal audition on 6 or 13 Sep. Please contact the Music department: 0207 492 2630 for an appointment. Do not come to the general advice sessions. This course is for classically trained, experienced singers, having had at least 5 years of one-to-one singing lessons.

Basic technique for solo singing

A good technique is essential for successful and healthy singing in all styles; this course will help you on your way. You will need at least an embryonic knowledge of music notation to benefit fully. This is the first year of a foundation level course. You can enrol on this course throughout the year. Please come to a music advice session so that we can be sure that the course is the right level for you.

Meetings begin with vocal and breathing exercises, followed by rehearsal of part-songs and other popular works. Anyone who can sing in tune and enjoys a good sing is welcome.

City Lit a cappella

This established ensemble sings original arrangements of jazz and popular songs, and performs frequently. New members with good music reading and aural skills are welcome. You will develop your ear, timing, intonation, memory and team work.

City Opera

A lively group, providing vocal and stage training for singers. You need to have a stable classical vocal technique and intend to or already sing professionally. Staged workshop performances at the end of the course. Entry is by formal audition, please call 020 7492 2630 to arrange a time (please do not come to the general advice sessions). Please note that the times for this course are Mondays 18:30-21:30 and Sundays 13:00-17:30
This is for classically trained singers of advanced level.

Consolidate your singing

Ideal if you have a basic singing technique and have some idea of suitable repertoire, but are not yet ready to move into a full workshop situation. You should have completed 'Basic technique for solo singing' and 'Develop your singing' or equivalent.
This is the third year of a foundation level course. You can enrol on this course throughout the year. Please come to a music advice session so that we can be sure that the course is the right level for you.

Develop your singing

Having completed ‘Basic technique for solo singing’ or equivalent, and gained some knowledge of vocal technique, come and build on those skills and learn to choose suitable repertoire. This is the second year of a foundation level course.
